Pantone color of the year 2018

Well, it's official. Pantone's Color of the Year is 18-3838 Ultra Violet. I'm only mildly surprised. I've seen this color around a lot, and I know a lot of people who will love this year's pick.

Purple has always been associated with the spiritual. Priests wear it on many of the Holy days. Royalty would wear it, because it was associated with wealth. And of course, let's not forget that it was the late great musician Prince's favorite color. It has come to be a symbol of hope and change.

It can both excite and sooth at the same time. It's a popular accent color in interiors, because it goes with so many other colors... red, blue, yellow, green. Add a violet pillow on a brown couch, and suddenly the blah become ahhh.

Tia approves of Pantone's Color of the Year, but she thinks it should be darker.
I'm always amazed by the reasons behind their choices for color of the year.  And it seems like Pantone's Color of the Year has really taken on a life of it's own in recent years. It's always a big deal when it is announced.

“The Pantone Color of the Year has come to mean so much more than ‘what’s trending’ in the world of design; it’s truly a reflection of what’s needed in our world today.” – Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute.

What do you think? Do you think Ultra Violet is what is needed in our world today?
