A Christmas home tour, while I'm kicked out of the kitchen

I'm kicked out of the kitchen

Merry Christmas! Jim kicked me out of the kitchen while he makes our family's traditional Krumkakes, so let's do a Christmas home tour. Come on in, and we'll try to stay out of his way!

Pantone color of the year 2018

Well, it's official. Pantone's Color of the Year is 18-3838 Ultra Violet. I'm only mildly surprised. I've seen this color around a lot, and I know a lot of people who will love this year's pick.

Finished painting all the doors black and they look so elegant

Wide view of black doors

Well, they're mostly finished. I still have to paint the closet doors in Jim's office. I'm thrilled with how they all look, and I'm loving our bathroom barn door. So much better. Everything looks so much more elegant with a touch of black.

Painting interior doors a dramatic black

Dining room doors
I finally started painting our interior doors. It has been on my list of things to do since before we moved in, and I really wish I would have done it sooner, like before we moved in! Better late than never, they say. Come take a look! I think you're going to be amazed.

What I love and hate about my house after living here a year

We've been living in our new house a little over a year now, and there are some things that I still love and some things I hate. Let me tell you about them.

Repurposed piano bench is now a pet feeding station

Before and After
Having two new kittens has meant rethinking some things we've never really thought about, like where to feed two cats instead of just one, and how to do it in a way that keeps Tia out of their food. An old piano bench proved to be the purrfect solution!

I wanted a porch sign, so....

Our front porch

I'm sure you've seen all the super cute signs people are hanging on their porches to add some curb appeal and make their porches more welcoming. I've wanted one for a long time, but none of the ones I found made my heart sing. It's really hard when you know exactly what you want and what you want isn't out there.

See how I updated our fireplace

Updating with a bit of paint

When we bought our house, one of the things we loved was the fireplace, but we weren't in love with the brass trim on the fireplace doors. Well, I finally got around to changing that and it didn't cost a lot to do.

We adopted two kittens!

Bella & Sophie

The hole Jasper left in our hearts when he died couldn't be filled with one kitten. We had to adopt two!  Meet the newest members of our family! Bella and Sophie!  Let me tell you, they're creating quite a stir in our household.

Sadness with an unexpected goodbye

On June 9, 2017, we had to say an unexpected goodbye to our dear baby boy Jasper. The pain of his passing is so intense that sometimes I find it hard to function. He was such a sweet and loving cat. My little peanut.

I'm in Lithuania!

Vilnius landscape

I'm in Lithuania for two weeks! We've been planning this trip for a few months, and we finally arrived in Vilnius on May first.  It took nearly 24 hours straight of travel to get here, but it's been so

Exterior color: Which do you like best?

Five options of color for our house

I was playing with Photoshop and added landscaping, window boxes, a yellow door, and different options of siding colors to our house.  Which one do you like best?

One year in our house! Lots of before and after pictures!

One Year in Our House

I cannot believe we've been in our house for one whole year!!  Where has the time time gone?  I remember thinking in January that our house no longer felt "new."  It just felt like our house and not our "new" house.  I don't know exactly how or when that happens. Anyway, in honor of living here a whole year, I thought I share some before and after pictures.

Solution for sliding your heavy Kitchenaid mixer

Baking in with the Kitchenaid

Anyone who has a KitchenAid mixer knows how heavy they are. They weigh a ton. I love mine, but because it's so heavy, if it isn't sitting on the kitchen counter all the time, I probably wouldn't use it. I know that's true, because I hardly ever used in our old house when it was stored in our utility room. It was just too much work to drag it out. That's why I wanted it more accessible in my new kitchen.
