Preview of the renovations

Living room and Kitchen

We are finally winding down with our renovations!  The electrician and the plumber have both finished up there work, so now we're down to little finishing details. Gone is the 1970's wallpaper and paneling. Gone is all the carpet. Curtains are being hung. Now it's looking fresh and new with a bit of a vintage vibe.

My word for 2016

Happy New Year!!!

I can't believe we're already ten days into the New Year.  I should have posted my word for the year days ago, but I've been having some trouble choosing one this year. In the past, my word has been so clear that I didn't even have to think about it.  This year, it's eluded me.

Last year, I chose "embrace," which fit perfectly. It was a wonderful word that helped me guide me. I felt a need to embrace things in my life. Such as...Whenever my roots needed to be touched up, I felt ugly. So, I embraced embraced my natural hair color, and I've never felt more beautiful. We bought a new house, and I embraced the renovations it needed.

It should be easy to find a word for this year. There are so many changes going on in my life... Then I thought maybe "change" should be my word, but it didn't feel right. A word that you choose to guide you through the year needs to feel right. It needs to fit. "Change" didn't fit, even though it is happening. Somehow it felt limiting, and bit like I had no control.

I needed a word that was as wonderful as last year's word, and I needed it before the year was over. I was starting to think I'd never find the right word, then tonight it came to me! It became very clear just like it had in the past. It just took a little longer to recognize it.

So what did I choose?

Develop

"Develop."

Develop is my word for 2016!

Why is it perfect?  Well, we'll be moving into our new house this year, so I'll be developing new routines and new ways of doing things. We'll have new neighbors, so I'll hopefully be developing some new friendships. I'll have an actual home office, so I'll be developing my business.  And, of course, I'll be continuing to develop myself personally and professionally.

Do you have a word for the year or do you do resolutions?

Share it in the comments section below and tell me why you chose it.
